At Monday’s meeting, Ann Arbor City Council will vote on several development projects, including the Maple Shoppes Building 2 Planned Project Site Plan and the East Stadium Boulevard Bridges Replacement Project.

Maple Shoppes Building 2 Planned Project Site Plan

Two resolutions to approve the Maple Shoppes Building 2 Planned Project plan will be voted on Monday. The original site plan was approved in October 2008, and in April 2009, the site was divided into two separate parcels.

At an Aug. 3 meeting, the Ann Arbor Planning Commission unanimously voted 6 to 0 to recommend that the mayor and the council approve the site plan.

The proposed building will be the second building in the Maple Shoppes’ retail center on the corner of North Maple Road and Dexter Avenue, across from the Veterans Memorial Park. Planned project modifications have been requested to make the front setback of the building 8 feet as opposed to the normal 10-foot minimum. A planning and development services staff report says the modifications will promote transit access, pedestrian orientation and reduced need for infrastructure.

Other improvements, such as parking and stormwater management, are already in the place, according to minutes from the Aug. 3 meeting.

East Stadium Boulevard Bridges Replacement Project

City Council will also be voting on a resolution to approve an addendum to the East Stadium Boulevard Bridges Replacement Project. The addendum is a supplement to the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery II grant agreement between the United States Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration for the project.

The agreement, now completed, involved the repair and reconstruction of the East Stadium Boulevard bridge over South State Street and the Ann Arbor Railroad track. This amendment will allow the federal government to reimburse the city for approximately $120,000 for engineering and inspections, according to project manager Michael Nearing.

According to a Department of Transportation report, $13.9 million in TIGER capital grants were allocated to “Ann Arbor bridges” in fiscal year 2010. The council voted to sign a contract with DOT in a March 2011 meeting.
