In a pressure-cooker event, Indiana came close to snapping the Michigan women’s water polo team’s 15-game win streak.
The ninth-ranked Wolverines (1-0 CWPA, 23-7) added another victory to their ongoing 16 game win streak. The 9-7 win against No. 13 Indiana (1-2, 20-6) awarded head coach Marcelo Leonardi his 100th victory at Michigan.
On Senior Night at Indiana, electricity was in the air as the match against the Hoosiers was highly anticipated for both sides. Michigan was looking to win its 18th straight conference opener and continue its winning record.
Good Riddance, the song by Green Day, played throughout Crisler Center — to good effort. On an afternoon completed with a win against No. 4 Utah, the No. 7 Michigan women’s gymnastics team (4-1 Big Ten, 11-2-1 overall) had one more reason for celebrating. The final home meet for its seniors was anything but a good riddance.
Friends and family watched on as a video flashed on the screen. It showed clips of the gymnasts as young, wide-eyed girls and proceeded to show pictures of them today.
The Big Ten Indoor Championships were in full throttle last weekend as the Michigan men’s track and field team finished sixth with 57 points.
In the shot put, junior Andrew Liskowitz and senior Grant Cartwright finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to contribute nine points toward the team score.
The relay team, consisting of senior Ryan Wilkie, sophomore Desmond Melson, junior Matt Plowman and sophomore Andrew Lorant also added extra points after taking sixth place in the distance medley event.
