Basketball adds fifth recruit to 2012 class

The Michigan men’s basketball team is adding one more to its already stellar 2012 class.

Pickerington (Ohio) Central High School shooting guard Caris LeVert originally signed with Ohio University in the fall, but when then-head coach John Groce left for Illinois, LeVert was given his release and was able to pursue other schools.

LeVert chose Michigan over Xavier, Dayton and Purdue, and made his decision public in a tweet on Friday night: “Just officially committed to the University of Michigan! #blessed #goblue”

He visited Ann Arbor last week and was offered a scholarship — one that opened up due to three transfers earlier this year. LeVert is listed at 6-foot-5 and is a three-star recruit according to He led Pickerington Central to an Ohio state championship and averaged 18.4 points per game as a senior.

LeVert joins Glenn Robinson III, Mitch McGary, Nik Stauskas and Spike Albrecht in Michigan’s incoming class.
