Everyone keeps saying" GO BLOW" WHEN THEY SHOULD BE SAYING " GO BLUE", cause that is what the UM people thought RR meant when he came from WVA. Just a thought. Come on let's keep this rivialy game as good as it get's & show them what that the Big 10 is still competive with any other conference no matter what the nay sayer's say about the Big 10. Afterall wait til Urban Myers has to recruit his own boy's instead of being handed with a ready-made team like John Luden was w/the Buccuneers. All by the way Urban Myers got some coaching experience by non other than "Earl Bruce". There are alot of coaches out there in the field that have had ties w/Ohio State. The SEC just thinks they are better but the fact of the matter bring them boy's up north to play so they can get a taste of what it's like playing in the down right cold & they would go home froze to death. One last note when it comes to Ohio or Michigan we win with them & we lose with them no fair weather fans like the Florida people. I don't know who they will root for after Teblow & Co. is gone cause Urban will be on his own unless he decides to go to Notre Dame.

I see too many comments about coaches, especially RR and not enough about the players who are the only ones on the field and PLAY the game.

I have followed Michigan football AND ATTENDED almost every home game ( except when I was out of town on business which I carefully scheduled around the football schedule ) for over 40 years , ever since I graduated from Ann Arbor.

I also supported the University in everyway I could and am a member of the President's Club.

Through the years I have followed the players and have been extremely impressed with their talents, character, efforts and dedication to my Alma Mater - until last few years.

It seems to me, and I sincerely hope that I am wrong, that the players since 1997 have gradually detoriorated in the qualities mentioned above.

I attribute this at least in part to the way Llyod Carr coached and recruited. Llyod Carr is a great, sincere and honest person but not a good head coach.

He left the cupboard fairly bare for RR who, in spite of his winning record at WV, did not have a good enough staff to compete in the Big 10 and had too much false loyalty to them.

In my humble opinion, RR needs to upgrade his staff and hire a few SEC or ACC assistant coaches with established track records.

I beleive he will receive sufficient financial support to do that.

He also has enough open spots ( 25 or more ) for recruits once he gets the right people to coach them.

Playing Ufer is all well and good...I'd much rather Michigan play defense. If Ufer can get Michigan to do that and Michigan wins, THEN people will be done questioning if RR "understands" the rivalry.

Bob Ufer's grave in Forest Hill Cemetery is right across the path from Yost's, in the Peony Garden area in the graveyard's northeast corner. They are about fifteen feet apart. (Yost died in 1946, Ufer in 1981.) Schembechler, on the other hand, is buried way over near the Geddes Avenue side of the graveyard, in the southeast corner: he must be at least 300 feet from Ufer and Yost.

You guys suck. I guarantee we're going to mop the floor with you guys and that punk defense of yours.

Tell them that Rich Rod is the best, Lorraine. Here's to hoping you guys keep Dick Rod for another 20 years!

It was on November 21, 2009:

The Buckeyes came to bury Michigan all wrapped in maize and blue
The words were said, the prayers were read, and everybody cried.
But when the closed the coffin, there was someone else inside.
Oh they came to bury Michigan, but Michigan wasn't dead
and when the game was over, it was someone else instead.
22 Michigan Wolverines put on their gloves of gray
and as the band played "The Victors",
they laid Jim Tressel and his Ohio State Buckeyes away!

Andy --
Good column. Hope you get some P from the young ladies for it. Play Ufer while you do it.

Great idea! Let's fire the football coach every two years because he doesn't bow down to the past. Then we can really be a laughingstock!

Isn't UM already a laughingstock?

I don't think RR should be fired now, but if next year isn't much better, I think it will be time for him to go.

I was thoroughly enjoying reading all these posts because for the most part they were educated statements. but Lorain Steelman... saying that Bo Schembechler was an outsider to the rivalry is ridiculous. Don't you remember where you got Bo from? and who taught Bo everything? OH YEAH OSU AND WOODY!

GO BUCKS!

This is like that saying, "You can pay for school, but you can't buy class." This article at best should say "inconclusive." You can not just assume that Rich Rod gets the tradition from the playing of that no more than you can believe he doesn't. Who knows?? Just because someone is flipping through a newspaper, don't just assume they can read, or even comprehend the key issues. I have no clue if he "understands." I know people who listen to Jay-Z just like I do, and I am sure many don't listen to it to understand the lyrics, even though I do. My point is, sometimes people can stumble onto great things, but don't truly understand or appreciate what makes that thing great. So, don't assume, although, I commend you for trying to write something positive about this guy, I know that must be a hard thing to do.

Lorain Steelman, why don't you admit you are related to Rich Rod!

Unless there are things going on in that cemetery of which we are unaware...the body of Mr. Ufer is more likely 30 feet from the places where Yost and Schembechler "lie". Perhaps the other word would provide a little more motivation to still living Wolverine fans!!

Understanding tradition or not, RR doesn't understand that teams have figured him out by the end of the first half, and he needs to be able to make adjustments during the game and at half-time. It isn't 2005-6 anymore when teams were still surprised by his schemes! If he goes back to running the same old plays, down after down, each quarter of the game, like he has in every game this year, we're gonna get freakin' blown out! If he finally realizes that you have to make adjustments, and OSU doesn't play their best game, we have a chance to win (as long as Greg Robinson doesn't continue his tradition of sleeping on the sidelines throughout the entire game).

For those of you who keep trumpeting the 4-0 start, I want to remind yo who we played. Rod gets another year, but he better beast MSU, ND, and OSU next year

Like a majority of Wolverine alumni and fans, I would LOVE to see Coach Rodriguez and the Wolverine football team win a lot more often, especially this Saturday. True fans don't want their team to lose, even for what they perceive as the "greater good".

On the flip-side, if the team keeps losing, and the NCAA reports major violations, it's probably time for him to go.

Brian Kelly and others should be on the AD's call list, if they haven't been called, already. Not too sure about Harbaugh though. He hasn't been all that positive toward U of M, since he left.

I always enjoy all the idiots who post negatively about Coach Rodriguez. Now they've decided that, somehow, he doesn't have team spirit, or he doesn't understand the rivalry! Give ne a break! I guess being an 'outsider', he couldn't possibly grasp its significance. Ahh yeah..just like previous outsiders , Yost, Crisler , and Schembechler. Nice try, but you're not making any sense here. Here's a thought....Crawl back under your respective rocks, or just admit, that you are Spartan or Buckeye fans, and just get it over with.

Well, here we have a fine comment by an ignorant bandwagon fan or "idiot" who knows little about Michigan football.

Still drinking the RR flavor aid huh. I guess you haven't noticed the past two seasons under RR or the fact that no one wants to play for him anymore (evident by a huge amount of open scholarships and players transferring out and belittling your players on national TV).

Obviously he gets it though as the trainwreck of a program keeps getting uglier.

For all you UM faithful remember this...when RichRod loses Saturday, Harbaugh will be hired after the season is over. You know and I know that Harbaugh IS a UM Football God and lives and dies with each UM game ...win or lose. I know for a fact that Harbaugh has said the UM head coach job IS his dream job. I think it would be great for the rivalry but the cupboard will still be bare for a few more years. Defense wins championships not spread offenses.

I WILL give you this...defense DOES win titles. And I, along with many others, can't wait until coach Rod gets the defensive side, 'in order'. But Coach Robinson IS an excellent coach, and he WILL have this defense back to normal, very soon. In the meantime, lets' support this Wolverine team, as they upset osu. Just like the 1969 team, they have been hearing all week ,that they cannot win this game, then on saturday, they went out, and kicked ohio's bucks.

As far, as Harbaugh is concerned, he is an 'offensive' coach, and not as good, as the coach we already have. (We saw what one of Harbaugh's defensive coaches did last year.) Jimmie can stay
in Palo Alto, and we'll' keep Coach Rod, right where he is.

Michigan Wolverine fans, come early, get the team stoked, and stay behind them ALL game! We'll being singing the 'Victors' at games end, and the Tressel era, will officially come to a 'close' saturday at the BIG HOUSE. Go Blue!!!!!!!!!!

Lorraine, you must be smoking. Harbaugh is not a good coach? Do you understand that he has completely transformed an annually shunned and disrespected one-win team with no real recruiting power into one of the Pac-10's best in just a couple of years? How is he not a good coach? Also, the fact that he fired his poor defensive coach makes him smarter than the people who hired him. Finally, Robinson has never really been that great of a coach. I'm not sure where you're getting that information besides the the athletic department's PR releases that keep talking about how he was associated with a super bowl back in 1865.

Andy - decent column, but once again, you insert gratuitous details of your personal life. No One Cares About You. Columns (except in case of Albom type figures) should not feature their authors. You appear egotistical, and pathetically needy. Cheers, former Daily Sports Writer, and 200 grad traveling from Manhattan to Ann Arbor for OSU game

I've been pretty critical out here but I think it's time to let them play the game. It's Ohio State and an 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' or something like that. Every TRUE Michigan fan should be thinking beat Ohio State even if they think the Head Coach is an idiot (or worse). The collective consciousness of all the fans and alumni all over the world might just inspire the team to play well.

GO BLUE!

Fired up or not, you will still lose. Lack of talent = lack of points/too many points for other team = lack of winning.

Fired up or not, you will still lose. No talent = no win.

He plays a tape and all of a sudden he has tradition and understanding of the program now? Who says he is even the person who chose to play it...

Apparently a lot of the commenters have forgotten about the rest of the season.

Rich DOES care about tradition and Harbaugh is NOT the answer, and patience is a virtue!!!

GO BLUE

Too little, too late, as the saying goes. RR has not a clue about football tradition, rivalry nor, it seems, about winning. It's always all about him.

I don't think tradition matters much to this West Virginia transplant. And besides, as miserable as Michigan has played this season, who is even betting on Rodriguez to be the head coach after it is all said and done? With an NCAA investigation ongoing, the Michigan administaration better cut its losses and run as soon as the final report is revealed. Michael Wilbon on Pardon the Interruption is right- the end of the road is at hand for Rich Rod and Charlie Weis at Notre Dame. Can't say it will be heartbreaking to see either of them go.

Fire RichRod, Hire Jim Harbaugh!

Great article! One of the only writers at the daily I actually look forward to reading.

Let's support Rich Rod and Michigan! Go Blue!

There will not be a Rodriguez Hall at Michigan any time soon
