There once was (& may still be) a nice 10-lane indoor range in Roosevelt Hall on EMU's campus, which served as 'home court' for the Huron Valley Pistol Team. Concerns about transporting guns to & from that facility (e.g., guns on campus), which members had been doing for years (without incident), was cited as a concern in the administration closing the range to HVPT use. I wonder if there is, or ever was (or ever could be) such a facility on UM's campus.

Nothing humbles the would-be pistolero like a friendly little Bullseye match.

I find the "gun-free zone" stuff hilarious, showing the stupidity of people who propose it. It's like a bank telling the world, "We have no guards, no cameras, and no locks on our vault. C'mon down!"

You guys need to get those students from Hillsdale College involved. They just opened a shooting range for the students of the school, as well as a marksmanship class with the college.

So has MSU.

I'm still waiting for some one to tell me what makes it OK for cops to have guns and no one Else

For those folks who think that this bill is a bad idea, I ask this question:

What do you do about the person who doesn't follow the "Gun Free" rule?

You all feel so much better with these gun free zones, but they do absolutely nothing to prevent someone from carrying a gun there. It's sybolism over substance, nothing more. Anyone any time could break this rule, so what makes you think you are safer for it? It must be ignorance, and blissful at that.

There is plenty of data from other schools that allow guns on campus, and for the poulation at large licensed to carry concealed; you will not find a rash of accidents nor will you find these folks generally more inclined to shoot innocent people. It's very much the opposite. In fact you may see that this actually deters crime. Its difficult to grasp I know, but the catch 22 is that a crime that didn't happen is not reported. But I like seeing nothing rather than what crimes did occur.

Ignoring the facts only makes you stupid. Use a little logic, and you find that your emotional arguments carry no weight.

"A shoot-out is better than a massacre!"

As with passage of the shall-issue concealed carry law some years ago, detractors predicted gloom and doom, but those fears turned out to be unfounded (as they have in numerous other states that passed concealed-carry laws). Once again, the detractors will be wrong as they were during the fight over concealed carry on campus in Utah and other states.

The idea that the same law-abiding citizens who carry off-campus are somehow dangerous on-campus is nothing more than a hoplophobic fantasy put forward by those who fear inanimate objects. While it is easy to demonize self-defense tools such as firearms, the danger is really criminals and socio-paths who benefit greatly by so-called gun-free zones!

Thank you for a well-considered and thought-out Op-Ed. This type of work is sorely lacking from The Daily.

Thank you for pointing out the excess of "attacks". It seems all too common for people who have an opinion that cannot fully (or intelligently) articulate their positions, to use political, status or stereotypical labels in a derogatory fashion.

The law tends to get out of hand at times. There have been cases where supreme court rulings have not been followed in district courts and evidence of such instances is emerging frequently with the information age with the support of independent media sources. As it stands, there does not need to be a new house bill to allow the carry of firearms on a college campus, however the confusion of law has pushed one into action. The written laws, as complex as they are, create much confusion among even some of the most educated of minds.

A little off subject, but I also believe that "distractions" such as this type of media food, fuel a misdirection to the important events in our world. People are hypnotized by subjective bias media sources and are forced into a one-tract thought process while things around them that need real attention flow freely.
