Michigan men's soccer represents in All-Big Ten teams
By: Chantel Jennings
Even though the Michigan men's soccer team lost in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament today, five players managed to get accolades.
Senior forward Mauro Fuzetti — First Team All-Big Ten
Fuzetti led the Wolverines in goals scored this year (8) and was the second highest point scorer on the team with 19. This season he became the program leader for career shot attempts with 186. The senior is expected to follow Peri Marosevic into the MLS this year.
Junior forward Justin Meram — Second Team All-Big Ten
Following his transfer from Yavapai College, Meram came to Michigan and made an immediate impact. He led the team in points (20) and was just the sixth player in program history to record a hat trick. The forward will return next year and hopefully have a more mature supporting cast.
Three Wolverines made the All-Big Ten Freshman Team:
Hamoody Saad — the freshman made an immediate impact this year and formed an impressive trio with Meram and Fuzetti. Saad started in 14 games and tallied five goals and six assists on the season.
Latif Alashe — While he did not score this season, Alashe was just one of three players to start in all 18 contests for the Wolverines. He notched three assists in his freshman campaign.
Kofi Opare — The freshman had one goal for the Wolverines this season, but began to be more prominent towards the end of the season.
