Stupid ass frat boys. Its nice to see theres still an exceptional level of douchebaggery in Ann Arbor. What a bunch of chatches

Did you see the comments below that the beating was committed by 8-10 black males?

I love the comment two below about the police not caring to catch the people responsible because they don't put out the race. How about a little common sense. The Daily writes the article and chooses what part of the police report or statement from the police they want. If you were to FOIA the report. That's (Freedom of Information Act) the police report the race of the suspects is clearly there. So blame the Daily for not giving you the information.

I was driving down this street with a friend moments before this happened, and we also had objects thrown at our car. Thank god my friend didn't get out of the car or this could've happened to us. In addition, we called the police to report the incident. They said they would sent an officer to Elm street to check it out. Looks like that didn't happen. What a shame.

I live in a city where years ago the only newspaper in the county started a policy of not listing the race of people involved in crimes like this. It most likely had to do with the fact that 60% of the city population was of one race and was generally involved in way more than that percentage of the crimes. Just a pure PR move.

It always drives me nuts when I see a report that after a crime no witnesses have come forward and the police are asking the publics help in finding the perpetrator or perpetrators. They will give physical descriptions, height, weight, clothes worn but not their race. If the police were really trying to solve these crimes wouldn't they want to let those who they are seeking this help from be able to narrow down the list by almost 1/2. Or are they more concerned with keeping the peace?

The AAPD should be ashamed. More and more we hear of bold and blatant crimes. And while I'm not entirely comfortable saying it, yes the Daily censors itself and thereby places the student populace in danger by not being informed of suspect descriptions.

More importantly, we as students at UofM need to be vigilant. The fact is, a good portion if not a majority of crimes committed in Ann Arbor could likely be traced back to residents of Ypsilanti. They are our ugly cousin, and we need to make it known that we don't want to put up with their shit. DON'T let non-students crash your parties, DON'T trust everyone in the crowd and DON'T be politically correct at the expense of YOUR safety.

Shame on you for stereotyping an entire city and calling it an ugly cousin! I am a proud homeowner in Ypsilanti, a grad student at EMU, and a U of M employee. I CHOSE to buy a house a Ypsi and have NEVER regretted it. I live in a wonderful and quiet neighborhood. Every place has crime. I fear walking alone on U of M's campus just as much as walking alone on EMU's campus and any other college campus. College campuses are easy targets for crime regardless of their location. Ignorant snobby people like you are why I did not want to buy in Ann Arbor. You are a disgrace!

It doesn't say anywhere in the article that the suspects were from Yspi...

No it doesn't, but let's face it, criminal elements in this time have to live somewhere and I bet I can tell you where.

Yea, in your house!

Not everybody’s the perfect person in the world, I mean everyone kills people, murders people, steals from you, steals from me, whatever. I think that people need a second chance, and I’ve always looked up to thugs from Ypsi, and I always will.

Best comment this year on the Daily. Kudos.

To know that there is video and other evidence of this set of crimes yet the police are not publicly following up concerns me as a parent of an out-of-state student.

The daily should seriously consider doing a follow up about the mess the AAPD made of this situation. I gave them a statement after the beating and I would like to know what steps they took that night besides losing a valuable piece of evidence (the video and pictures of the incident).

Totally unacceptable that the police aren't following up on this. Sounds like there should be plenty of people arrested for this crime. Crime alerts are getting more and more common around here. Seems to me getting beat unconscience by a gang of kids should constitute some serious police action!

Just goes to prove people are animals at heart.

most savage beating i have ever seen

I was there. The suspects were about 8-10 black males that appeared to be in their late teens/early twenties. I was actually able to snap several pictures of the suspects and even a video of the entire beat down. I gave the memory card to the police, but the officer I gave it to called back the next day to tell me he lost the memory card on the way back to the station. Way to go AAPD...

ypsi high school stay classy

Why no description of suspects? Let's do some math! (It's the Michigan Daily) + (suspects where probably not students at UM [read: Ypsi]) = what suspect characteristic is noticibly absent from this story? The implicit self-censorship of journalism never ceases to amaze me - much less that no respected journalistic minds want to be the first to speak out against it.

Ok so since people just kind of "broke it up" that leaves the Ann Arbor Police free to NOT further investigate! Come on - why wasn't the car the victim was driving taken into impound? Ever heard
of dusting for finger prints?! Some poor guys gets beat the point of unconsciousness, and the police don't even investigate! Way to be politcally incorrect Ann Arbor!

What, no description of suspects? What's the deal with that? As an issue of public safety, I'd like to know who to look out for.

Uhhhh what does this have to do with U of M, trolls
It's Halloween. People get beat up

Leaders and the Best!

Stay classy UM.
