I have to go walk the dog and the prospect of scooping his stool is more appealing than picking up Tom Friedman's brain droppings... but duty calls.

I agree completely, trying to find a moderate Republican or Democrat is next to impossible. At some point unless we recognize that both sides have something to contribute to the debate we soon won't have the opportunity to debate. I believe you could also have mentioned the contributions of extreme talk radio and television to the lack of information out there.

Couldn't agree more. Moderation seems to be a dying distiction in this country.

Excellent article. Being exposed to views that we disagree with, and learning to find value in them, is what gives a person the authority to assert their own perspective.

A good place to start countering this phenomenon would be in education, both K-12 and college. Given the lack of conservative points of view, I think that if the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" is implemented, the first place it should start is at places like the U of M in the form of "affirmative action" for conservatives.

a very good piece...the "information age' could be better called "the dis/misinformation age", where crackpots of all political persuasions and extremes find more and more intense community/communication with others who share only the same views...

nice to see a young person brought up in this brave new world recognizing the real flaws in it.
