Great website to add a forum comment.

I don't have too much of an issue with the Regents - executive officers are making most of the decisions anyway.

You guys should all be taking a pay decrease like everyone else in the state of michigan. to keep raising tuition prices like you have been is criminal and certainly goes a long way in helping to further our have vrsus have nots society.

I can't believe this.
I understand that the U is undergoing some financial hardship, but have they even considered the ramifications against the students?
I'm out-of-state, but many of my friends are in-state and choose to go to school there because for the cost, they are getting a fantastic education.
I'm upset because I feel as though I am paying to attend a private university. Had I wanted to pay more than I could ever afford, I probably would have done so in the first place!
These tuition increases are insane, and I am astounded at the willingness of the University to raise tuition when they are the most expensive public school in the nation already.

Don't fool yourselves into believing that this increase is solely the domain of the current Regents. When I enrolled at Michigan in 1990, it was the most expensive public university in the U.S. At this point, tuition increases are more of a tradition than a winning football team.

The best thing about these comment pages, is that they allow the other moderates and republicans to come out of the woodwork. Walking through central campus at U of M, it's very easy to feel isolated and alone if you aren't a hard-core liberal. Yet the comments on these pages demonstrate that even if the population is small, a minority of conservatives does exxist on this campus. I'm glad to know I'm not alone, and that I'm not the only one who didn't vote for democrats for the Regents.

Michigan: Ivy league prices, Public School cred!

Well folks, you put yourselves in this mess. Please note that the Regents are *elected* to their posts and thus are majority Democrat, who as we all know love to spend other people's money with reckless abandon.

Don't like how the Regents manage the university? It's simple: stop electing the same clowns as managers!

Regents, Executive Officers...

You have failed at doing anything to stand up for students.

Great!

Now, let's look to MSA for help....

Oh, wait: They suck...

Great!

My previous comment was removed!

What I said was,

It's amazing to see this article's headline right next to the other:

"Regents approve $66.8 million in building additions, $9.7 million in demolitions."

Especially when I'm a senior, have already given $60,000 to UM, and don't know how I'm going to finish my last year since they cut my financial aid so drastically this year. So much for making more aid available.

And then I said F*** you regents, but that's why it was censored.

Percentage is only part of it. Virginia and Michigan are 2 of the highest in tuition, so even a smaller increase in percentage adds up to a lot of money.

What you are going to see in the next year or two is fewer applying Michigan cause they just can't afford it. Already a lot of qualified out of state students are staying away this coming year.

It's particularly strange that Michigan in state tuition is more than some states out of state tuition (i.e., Florida and Florida State). And in many more cases it's close to a lot of out of state tuition.

No, it won't be renamed Cornell, because apparently Cornell isn't raising tuition this year. According to NPR, they are working on saving costs all over the campus instead. From eliminating lunch room trays, to cutting staff phones and voicemail, to hiring students to do groundskeeping on minimum wage shifts with $1000 tuition refund packages, Cornell has decided to work with the situation. Unlike U of M, they seem to actually realize that a recession is in place, and most students will eventually, give up and go somewhere else if they can no longer afford it.

Hail U of M, the "too big to fail" college.

So is the school going to be renamed Cornell?

Why did you remove/censor the previously submitted comments? Don't l;ike to hear from the POOR miserable students you serve?
