Whatever words or activities may have happened earlier in the evening, one guy was walking away, a couple of blocks away, and clearly posing no physical threat to anyone. The other attacked him, like a coward, from behind. The result brings shame on the University of Michigan.

The athletic department isn't trying to cover this up at all. This guy is a nobody on the football team. RichRod most likely hasn't spoken a word to him all year. Once the guy is arrested he will be off the team from good and headed to prison.
The sad thing is that if the victim wasn't an athlete, then this story would not be in the paper.
For once I would like someone in Athletics to come out immediately and publicly say that this type of behavior is NOT TOLERATED. I want a press conference not just a suspension. I want to know EXACTLY what they are doing to PREVENT this type of incident. I understand that on one hand we ask players to turn into attack machines on football Saturdays but how are they being taught to turn it off?

This is a sad sad day for UofM and our sports programs. Remember last time a football player beat someone up in Westquad a couple years ago. Now a player on the football team takes out someone on the hockey team.
The football team is OUT OF CONTROL, i hope that 2nd indoor practice facility is what they need to be good again. Seems to me the football team needs to work on being citizens first and athletes second.
The constant arrest of players is just to much (yes i know this has not been proven yet, but it seems well on its way to being). The team is an embarrassment on and off the field. There should be a test for players to see if they are a dumbass or not.
