In all of the debate about the "C-Ya" chant (Author wasn't just 'one of the crowd' in 'C-Ya' chant, 11/10/09), why doesn't anyone ever complain about the "bitch," "whore" or "pussy" parts of the chant? Those words are as sexist as "cocksucker" is homophobic but they almost always go unnoticed. I've heard a few girls called cocksuckers, so I don't understand how that term is exclusively homophobic.
More like this
The fact of the matter is that the "C-Ya" chant is an assault aimed at a member of the visiting team. It's designed to intimidate. It's part of the student section antics that make Yost Ice Arena one of the hardest places for visiting teams to play in all of college hockey. Nothing more, nothing less. Adding any additional connotations to the words is a stretch. In terms of Andy Reid leading the chant, I find it difficult to trace the origin of a chant that every student in that section knows back to one person.
Andy, dude, keep the chicken suit and the chant. Lose the megaphone.
