Bruce Wasserstein, investment banking pioneer and former Daily editor, dies
By: Gary Graca
Bruce Wasserstein, Wall Street investment banking guru and one of The Michigan Daily's most famous alumni, died today at the age of 61, The New York Times reported.
As the Times explained, Wasserstein "helped pioneer the hostile takeover in the 1980s and reshaped the mergers and acquisitions business into a high art." Since 2002, he was the chairman and chief executive of Lazard, a financial advisory and asset management firm he famously pushed to become public when he took it over.
Long before his Wall Street days, though, Wasserstein attended the University of Michigan for his undergraduate education. During his time here, he worked at The Michigan Daily, rising to become the paper's executive editor in 1966-1967.
